Our History
A legacy of care in Edmonton since 1948
Constructed in 1948, Blue Cross Animal Hospital was the first purpose-built small animal veterinary hospital in Edmonton. Built to the highest standards of its time, the facility included an operating room, X-ray equipment, kennels, and isolation wards, thus setting a new benchmark for small animal care in the city.
Founded by Dr. Alex J. Rattray, the hospital reflected a growing demand for dedicated veterinary services as Edmonton’s population expanded. From its earliest days, Blue Cross was designed to provide comprehensive, professional care in a purpose-built environment.
